Overestimation

Unlike Koyuki and Cate Blanchette, maintaining my skin in moderate condition has always been an effort for me. A TOUGH effort in fact. So today I have decided to further pampering my skin - by making the ever popular oriental White Fungus dessert :-)

Trust me, getting those ingredients was not as easy as I thought.
I had to rush for two different venues to complete the list. And o ya, I overestimated the amount of ingredients.

The Beauty Essence:
One (1) bunch of White Fungus
Six (6) Red Dates
One (1) pear
One (1) sweet potato
Two (2) medium cubes of rock sugar

All it took was 1 hour and voila!

The Magic Portion:

The Tease:
Mom thought it was excessively sweet. And so did I. >.<
It's time to sharpen my cooking skills!
Anyway, I might add pandan leaves & longan the next time I cook

Penang Property Reviews

On the verge of becoming a working adult, I realized that conversation between me n my peeps is no longer surrounding A from SXI has a crush on B our classmate, or C has betrayed D. We now talk about profound issues, we now talk about PROPERTY. Penang Property to be actual.

Thanks to UUM, I learned that goods depreciate. Thanks to newspapers, I learned that property does not depreciate, especially so in Georgetown. Thanks to Microeconomics , I learned that property in Penang is getting expensive due to scarcity of land. And thanks to PropWall Penang, I learned about my dream house.

As organized as it is, this Malaysian property webbie allows prospective customers (or even passerby like me) to look for property in accordance with our location, categorical or alphabetical preferences and most-wanted properties on the site.It is so well-designed that people could enjoy browsing each and every property without feeling tensed.
.
So, my dream house is situated in Moonlight Bay, Batu Feringgi. Smashing, isn't it?
Upon clicking the link of palace of my dream, I was further shocked by the meticulous and detailed description of this property e.g. it's developed by Ivory Properties Group and it is a freehold property, as well as the facilities attached e.g. house lift & hill top landscape garden. The killer factor of this webbie would be the honest analysis done on my dream house.

While indulging in every little details of my dream house, I discovered that some similar properties are displayed on the side bar, which is definitely a convenience for serious house buyers. For those who seek for good deals, they just need to enter their e-mail and the next thing they know would be owning a house in the Pearl of Orient. This webbie even owns a Facebook account so that passerby like me can be kept updated (as I'd be a buyer someday =>)

Just a reminder to myself, a dream house would not always be a dream.

Penang Island: Where Ringgit Malaysia Is of Wee Values

Finally, I could feel that recession is in the air. Dry washing my blazer alone in the dobi is costing me RM12. Getting it washed 5.5 times means I could get myself a new branded blazer (after discount ofcoz)

So, going to the dobi is pretty exclusive nowadays

Lu ho bo, Wantan Noodles?

So, I am back to the town for CNY break. Woke up at 6.30am, I went to Jeutong market with mom for breakfast & more CNY clothes. It was already packed with veggies and customers though I could hardly tell what's sold due to the dimly-lit condition. Of cause, I ordered my all time favorite - wantan mee.

Me: Sir, 2 PACKS of wantan mee please.

Vendor: OK!

Me: Oh, I meant 2 PLATES of wantan mee...

The moral of the story, avoid going to the market early in the morning. Not at least when you are sleepy... : )

Back to the Past: Penang Peranakan Mansion a.k.a Green House

The year of Rabbit 2011 marks the 24th year I live on the Pearl of Orient (old liao=.=). It has never appeared in my wildest dream that there is such a place. A complete recollection of the residence of affluent Babas and Nyonyas (which is the remnants of Chinese mixed Malays who do not profess Islam). A close resemblance to the old house in Macalister Road I spent most of my childhood (except that the antic furniture was not that ELABORATE.. probably my ancestors are poor Babas & Nyonyas). This is the Pinang Peranakan Mansion @ Church Street I found out lately.

Does this courtyard reminds you of any drama??
Yes, it has appeared in one of the local dramas.
That's Hui Liy, who hailed all da way from KL, just for this mansion. : )

This is a graduation words of wisdom to Phoey.
Diligence is the key to a successful career. And Thriftiness leads to prosperity. The way the Peranakan educated their descendants.
I was trying to sharpen my photography skills. Ke ke ke ke!!
Tok Panjang in the "Little Nyonya"series. There are two mirrors at each side of the room, and the master of the household (who sit @ the place where I sat) could have the entire view of the house. O ya, only family members dine on this table.

Equality is one thing you can't find in a Peranakan family then. The sophisticated room on the right belonged to a son (and the Gong was used to summon maids.. wow!!) and the simpler room on the left was owned by a daughter.

Playing "Zhi-ki" (Your poker today) ..
The amah in "Little Nyonya" also played this for pleasure.
Post-visit Remarks:
Pro: We absolutely enjoyed the entire tour. Every single moment. Feeling as though we have gone back to the end 19th century, we were enchanted by the tales behind every piece of chair and the expression of every person in the murals and photos. Whatsmore, the tour guide was so knowledgeable, meticulous and rather patient. (Ask for a guided tour, or else it would be like visiting Manchester Stadium without knowing what the heck is MU) And the location was strategic. Must-gos for its photography & historical values. We spent almost 2 hours there. LOLz

Cons: It cost us RM10!!! The promotion to the locals, especially Penangites, was extremely limited that my mom has never heard of it =.=. And they sort of forcefully persuaded us to buy Nyonya kuih-muih. Of cause, we didn't.

Once in a Lifetime

18.12.2010 - Red Box Karaoke 1st Avenue, the philanthropist of the week blasted Penangites with this promo whereby you can scream your heart out with just RM1 (complimentary 1 beverage + 1 meal/pax). Provided that you are one of the first 50 persons per session.

18.12.2010 - I did something Penangites don't always do and I vouched to be one of the 50 lucky persons during the 10am session.

Excited as we were, I, HZ, MC and SP went as early as 7.30am to queue for our lucks. Regardless of mom's refusal and friends' mocking, we went anyway, for the reason we live only once. Anyway, there were already 30+ people lining up =.= . So, Penangites aren't as laid-back or un-kiasu at all .. And since it was hours away from the session, we played Doraemon UNO.. until something happened and we no longer had any mood to continue with the game.

Above are the crazy 4 final semester students (the one holding the phone was included) in the queue. Despite the incident, we managed to go in. We paid only RM4.40 for the 2-hour session. And I shall conclude the session was fun and worth the long-wait + embarrassment. Special thanks to HZ's mommy & SP's vouchers. After all, we were all winners for the UNO games & the singing (or SCREAMING.. keke)

Shall I do it again in the near future? I will take serious consideration:-)

Little Penang Street Market

Again, deepest gratitude to Mr Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook & Alliance Franchaise, I came to know about today's happening event on the Upper Penang Road - not just today, but the last Sundays of every month to be actual.

Spotted its advertisement on the Star, it has always been my dream to check this event out. Because I used to stuck in UUM every last Sundays. So, my happiest dream sort of comes true today.

Surely this was not the best picture I could take. It was 10.20am. Breezy and sunny day. You could get any accessories, clothes, souvenirs, handicrafts and most of all, FOODS @ the flea market. So, it's just another flea market in Penang.

MY GASTRONOMICAL ADVENTURE
with Little Penang Street Market 1

Acknowledging that Alliance Franchaise would be selling French pastries there, I have secretly vouched to go earlier to the market so that I could locate the freshest pastries there. Turned out, I was their earliest customer. >.<>

French strawberry tart. Tarte aux fraises.
Attractive as it looked, this tart was fantastic - with tasteless custard, crunchy & ultra-milky crust and fresh & sweet strawberries. The combination was God-made.
Super in love the crust. Definitely worth RM10.

Here comes eclair au chocolat. The French donuts according to Wikipedia.
The chocolate custard(with the slightest taste of chocolate) was stuffed inside the bread, topping it with a thin layer of sweet rich chocolate syrup.
OMG. Another marvelous sensation. I just felt like taking another piece. Yummy~~ Again, worth the money.
Place in fridge before consumption.

Also, I bought myself a piece of marble home-made cheese cake as tomorrow's breakfast. And feel like making it my supper tonite. ...

Mom & I actually went to the market with empty stomachs. This was our complimentary breakfast today. Wan tan mee in a coffee shop nearby. Needless to say, the quality of this noodles awed me. It was very good in fact.
I am shameful that I did not discover it earlier.

And to Phoey my old friend, there are times when I am not capable of helping. Please excuse me.
