Ada Tulis Nama ke?

Hit by an abrupt durian crave, I went to Gajah Jatuh town to satisfy my desire. Upon boarding the bus to return to my hostel, I saw an empty seat and walked swiftly towards it. While I was adjusting my skirt after sitting down .....

Another Undergraduate of 3rd-class mentality: Cik, sini ada orang duduk la! (She was keeping the place for her friend)

Me: Ya ke? Ada tulis nama ke? (I looked around searching for the name..lol)

Another Undergraduate of 3-rd class mentality: Erm... tak de la.. Kau duduk depan je la (While pointing to the almost-filled-up seats at the front)

Me: .................. (WTF!!!!!!!!)

I'm in Malaysia Book of Records, don play play^^

Tataz to carefree March and hello frantic April! Despite my theoretically-stuffed-agenda, I managed to slot in UUM Ponggal Fest on this morning =) [okay la, I sort of backed up last nite. But, I don't make empty promises!!]

My tender-age roomie+me in Punjabi-suit+stunning Veron

My fantasies about Ponggal Fest:
A long list of Hindu rituals dominated by fellow Indians coupled with several traditional performances.

The Reality-checks:
1) Hindu Rituals
There was.
Hazy Tapak Ekspo

But was cut to the minimal. The only ritual we did was cooking some mixture of sweet rice with raisins, i.e. Pongal, (kind of reminds me of Nando's) in a brand new ceramic pot using milk until they were boiled over. ON FIREWOOD not gas stove! And it's a way to praise the God (stand to be corrected). And for someone who yet to know how to cook, I truly enjoyed the ride to make fire & looking for ways to get the Pongal boiled over! The keywords were PATIENCE & HEAT!

Ponggal Ponggal!
2) Dominated by Fellow Indians
Indeed it is. But rest assured, Chinese was abundant. Some Malays were spotted too (And I'm sure they are not less religious). The 1Malaysia spirit was certainly there!

3) Traditional Performances
J'adore! But sadly I didn't see any during my presence there.

4) Hannah
We had our 1st hannahs as well! We were told that this is usually done on the bride during Indian Wedding Feast and it can last for 1 week!

They r super duper chun! Feel like showing off to the whole world.
(Damn, I looked fat...or I am fat?)

Ponggal Fest Aftermath: (i like the word "aftermath" alot!)
No remorse spending my entire morning under the sizzling hot sun. Greatest appreciation to Veron for bringing me along (though she's the one who BENEFITED the best...hehehe)and Shalini for helping me with the suit! And most important of all, my name is now on the Malaysia Book of Records!! (cooking the most Ponggal in Malaysia i guess) All the sweats r worthwhile and I think I'm now eligible to take part in the next season Survivor Show!

A Blind Date

Unplanned, unprepared and unpredictable - it was inevitably a date.. a blind one in fact. =) As a lone eagle, it's my habit of having lunch alone before classes on Wednesdays. Today was D-day.

He just appeared in front of my table out of no where. My guess is that he has been quietly observing me from far for the past few weeks. He sat down across me, without the simple courtesy of asking for my permission. How rude he is, I thought. And undeniably, he isn't entirely bad looking. =)

And he started mumbling incessantly. Ignoring him, I continued with my private enjoyment of lunch. Slightly disturbed yet managed to capture his handsome look. Just scroll down!

Scrubs: The Sitcom & The Reality

Visiting a clinic always reminds me of "Scrubs" the sitcom, n more recently - "The Private Practice"(I am a goner, I know). No matter how hard I pray, the experience is always the opposite from that on the TV screen. Today, for one.
Pic proudly stolen from d-empire.org
The idiot box portrays: A pleasant looking receptionist talking on a telephone would ask the person on the line to hang on and courteously greet the patient. Some nurses walk swiftly by the reception.
Today's reality check: Escorted by the dazzling hot sun, I walked toward the counter and the exhausted-looking-due-to-constant-sitting-and-gossiping-in-the-counter-since-early-morning receptionist instructed me to a board saying "Counter will be reopen at 2pm".It was 3.20pm then. So, I was further instructed to another signboard written " Thursday: 8am to 3.15pm."

The idiot box portrays: When you need them, they'll be there for you. When someone in hysteria or in labor appears in the lounge of a hospital, all the surgeons, doctors, nurses, cleaners and receptionist would rush here n there & to get the someone into emergency room or whatsoever they call.
Today's reality check: After minutes of incessant complaint, the receptionist said I could go the Emergency Unit. I wasn't in trance or in labour of cause. And there were 10 students waiting patiently. No staffs were within my vicinity until I found the room. It was another long 20-minutes before my turn to be diagnosed - not by a doctor by an assistant doctor who read medicine for a sheer 3-years (according to the "assistant doctor"=.=''').

Anyway, I only had a swollen eye. And was given so many types of medicine. And even a packet of KK. >.<
The 1st question I was asked at the counter was: why is ur eye swollen? And I was glad, for a moment, that I was not on a death bed, for the PROFESSIONALS in PKU could hardly render any assistance but only asking myself to diagnose what's da cause of my swollen eyes.

Of cause you would say: A clinic is not a hospital. : )

S̄wạs̄dīka, Wantan Noodles

Introducing Wanton Mee Hat Yai Version @ Lee Garden Hawker Centre @ 350 Baht
It was a magical combination. Delicious soft veggie noodles coupled with meaty deco. Unlike the Penang version, the wantan was not particular delicious but the meatball was awesome and the brown unknown food was incomparable. Scanty portion, which makes you crave for more!

4/5 star-rated

"Marrying Mozart"

Well, I ain't marrying him (if so, I would have become a heroin in his opera, which is utter romantic .. lolz) This is but the most recent masterpiece by Stephanie Cowell I read since 2 days' back. Overwhelming as it is, this is another romance genre I really fancy, twisting the career & relationships of young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (the prodigy classical musician in Vienna) and the 4 Weber sisters.

I must admit that musician isn't a character I am familiar with (coz Danielle Steele talked about lawyers, housewives, pilots and militants almost all the time). But I can't help noticing that musicians like Mozart & Igor Stravinsky (the Russian musician who involved with Coco Chanel) did bear some similarality e.g. they would "imprison" themselves for quite sometime & need women influence in order to compose good music =.=

Highly commendable and it is available in UUM library. Yes, DA LIBRARY -- the place I am gonna miss most when I leave ... the place I spent hours reading newspapers ... n the best library stored with the most comprehensive novels... n I earnestly hope that my future workplace owns a library just like this one

And my favorite sentence:
" In them he asked Aloysia many times why she couldn't love him as much as he loved her."

P/S: the German Border Guard case was part of the answer of my juris paper as I predicted in that post.

Banana Juice in Pink

It is amongst my favorite beverages in UUM till to date. Obtainable in Subaidah, UUM. Countless times have I spread words to fellow UUM students that it is a "magical" beverage. Fellow UUM pals would stared at me and uttered, "BANANA JUICE???" Everyone reacted the same, as far as I can remember. :-)

I bought it again on 23/11/2010, as a consolation to myself on the day we finished 3 equally challenging consecutive papers on 3 days' period.. Odd enough, it was PINK in colour on that day (as opposed to the usual faded yellow.. u noe, banana kan)

How to make a Banana Juice?
Blend milk, banana, syrup and ice together. And voila!

Thrilled, I asked the staff there how come it was so. The staff told me in broken BM that it was SPECIAL. Yet, it tasted as good as ever(even better I suspected) Eventually, I figured out they just substituted red syrup with their normal syrup.

Then, it struck me. Life's just like Banana Juice(lolz!!) It's up to our creativity to shape our future. And there's always more than one way to make some of our dreams come true (or all perhaps) ;-))) Surely, I am so gonna miss the Banana Juice from Subaidah when I leave.....

The Scent from the Drying Area

While majority of Malaysians family has been celebrating the joyous Hari Raya Haji since the day before, we, the second floor-ers of H Block of College of Bank Rakyat, on the contrary, have been scented by this foreign odour for the past 2 days. Sharp, nasty, and so sickening that anyone standing near it would feel like throwing up on the spot - best described the "scent". Lets have a wild guess what is it!

Having no idea why it is called a "Drying Area" instead of a "Laundry"(probably because washing machine is on the other end of the alley), dirty clothes of 2-days could not be washed. Eventually, we have to wash them on the 3rd floor. To make matter worse, our bathrooms & toilets are just adjacent the Drying Area and it is almost the end in the alley between our rooms. Which means we can't avoid the "scent" even before leaving our room to go tapao downstairs or when nature calls.

The scent came from the scattered excrement (or shits) in the basin in the Drying Area. We inferred that the excrement was from a cat(the grey one which has been wondering outside our room since Sunday) instead of the noisy monkeys. There were some new pieces added to the scattered pieces this morning. Yuck!! I really wish that the holiday would end soon. And so is our little hardship here.

Till death the "scent" would linger in our nostrils. In mine n my roomie's at least.
